Whether you have one kid or ten, knowing how to decrease stress and anxiety as a mom is crucial to being a great mom. You do not need a complicated solution to understand how to reduce stress and anxiety. As a wife and mother of two, I never needed to rely on these steps as much as I do now.

Sometimes, we need a healthy reminder to do what we already know!

How to Decrease Stress and Anxiety as A Mom

  • Take some time for yourself! Pray, journal, listen to music, or people-watch in a cafe while you sip coffee or tea. Whatever you do, find some time where you can be alone.

 

  • You need alone time, especially if you have kids. Fill your cup back up before you start trying to help others fill theirs.

 

  • Eat and Drink. I know we get tired of people asking if we have had any water when we say we don’t feel well or have a headache, but it is for a reason.

 

  • Have you had enough water in the last twenty-four hours? Not coffee, tea, or soda, but regular water? How much have you had to eat, and was it a nutritious meal, or was it a quick bowl of sugared cereal?

 

Taking care of our body is vital to feel Great.

  • Exercise! Is your body feeling weak or gross? Are you having negative thoughts, overthinking, or dwelling on things that don’t need attention?

 

  • Our bodies need to move! Think of stress and anxiety as build-up that you can only flush out by walking, running, or dancing.

 

  • You must exercise whether you walk around the block, run, lift weights, or dance in your living room!

 

  • Exercise increases mental health and reduces stress and anxiety. So even if it is only thirty minutes, make sure you work out daily!

 

  • Get sleep! Your brain and body need sleep. Eight to ten hours would be preferred, but if you can’t get that right away because you are a new mom or dad, try to nap during the day.

 

  • If you don’t get sleep, your mood and ability to function will decrease dramatically.

Learn about your body. Remember how your body feels after your workout so that you know the benefits next time.

Most of the time, we don’t need a special drink, pill, or surgery to decrease stress or anxiety.

We must care for ourselves, starting with our basic needs and moving on.
