The first two weeks postpartum:

I am so happy to have given birth and now to start recovering. I’ve been so ready to return to running and working out, especially in this beautiful sunny weather it’s been hard to sit still. However, I am doing my best to take it easy. The first week postpartum went way smoother than postpartum with my first child.

My first experience postpartum with my eldest son was not bad, but I am recovering way faster this time around.

Differences between the first two weeks postpartum with my first and second childbirth:

First, I had hemorrhaged after the first birth and because of this, the little body massages they give you right after birth were very uncomfortable. I also had a lot of blood due to the hemorrhaging and so I had to wear pad sickles and diapers or depends way longer than this time around.

Second, I had a level two tear, and I believe it’s on a scale of one to three. This made my recovery time a little longer because the tear needed to heal. With my second baby, I only had a level one tear and so I am now in my second week and I feel no pain, I have minor spotting and can walk and sit for decent periods of time. It is nice to know that with each baby you should be tearing less, or at least that’s what my doctor told me.

So here we are! Two Weeks Postpartum:

I have just hit two weeks and I feel great! As I have mentioned previously, I have little to no spotting. I can walk with no pain or strain.

I read (link) that you should try and walk right after giving birth anywhere from ten to thirty minutes a day. Now I had interpreted that as walking being its own separate workout. In other words, I went to a walking course and timed myself for fifteen minutes of walking and then returned for the second fifteen minutes. After I did that I was a little sore. Mind you at the time I was only a week and a half postpartum.

Looking back at it, the article might have meant walking thirty minutes total in the whole day. This included walking in your house or backyard. Not an exclusive workout on top of the walking you might be doing in your home.

Either way, I was able to do it but I was sore.

Where am I physically at two weeks postpartum:

No Pain! I don’t have any pain whatsoever. At times I might have some discomfort at the end of the day if I have been sitting for an extended period of time but nothing crazy. I received an epidural, but the backache that came with it was gone after the third or fourth day.

I am mobile! I can walk comfortably in the sun for fifteen minutes or stand for a couple of hours. But, I definitely can not just start running or lifting heavy weights. Although they don’t even recommend that right now, I know physically I cannot do that without straining myself.

My Body is changing! I gained thirty-three pounds during this pregnancy. If I were not induced three weeks early, I would have reached forty pounds easily. I am already down seventeen pounds, mainly because my son was born, breastfeeding, and my changing hormones.

My skin is more vibrant and moisturized than during the pregnancy and I have not noticed a change in my hair yet.

Breastfeeding is lovely! I loved breastfeeding the first time and looked forward to it this time. I still enjoy it especially because I scabbed up quicker and healed faster than last. So it only was uncomfortable or slightly hurting for a few days during the first-week post-birth. I also got my milk sooner than last time.

I look forward to continuing to heal when I can work out and have no itching, spotting, or limitations on mobility. Of course, I am taking one day at a time to make sure I don’t get overdue cause I can get impatient quickly, but I am also great at listening to my body and doctor and not jeopardizing my health.

I will definitely be posting my recovery/ fitness journey post-second child. Let me know if you are interested or want to join me in some challenges!
