Why you should see a professional:

At what point is it time to get professional help?

How long must you struggle to achieve your weight, hair, health, passions, or personal goals before asking for help?

In my growth journeys, I have found that it is usually because of the same three reasons that I have fallen short of my goals.

  1. I am overly confident and sometimes have misplaced trust in my DIY ability or youtube.
  2. I tend to avoid help or guidance from others because of fear.
  3. I lack the understanding required to invest in myself properly.

In 2012, I decided to start my natural hair journey. I chose to no longer straighten my hair unless it was to get a trim. After reading that sentence, I sounded crazy thinking back on it now! I decided to trust youtube instead of a trained professional because I was too afraid to do the big chop and not willing to trust a professional with my hair.

A few years later, my hair had reached the longest it had been since maybe since I was a kid. However, After four years, I ran into a wall. My hair would not grow past armpit length. No matter how many DIY kinds of butter, oils, and routines I would do, my hair would not grow past a certain point.

Every time I went in for a trim, my hair was reduced to the same length because I was/’t retaining as much growth. So what changed? Or what needed to be changed?

I needed professional help.

After a certain amount of time, the YouTubers I watched eventually saw a professional, even if they only went once, and they all could grow their hair as long as they wanted to.

I didn’t make the appointment because of the fear that my hair would get messed up and because I thought the price was too high. However, it changed when a family friend asked me, “Is your hair worth it?”

At the time, I responded, “No.”

“Well then, it’s not worth it,” she replied.

I realized then that what I had been doing for the last seven years had only gotten me so far. How much longer was I going to waste time finding a cure instead of just having an individual specializing in curly hair guide me?

It is like only referring to Web MD to cure everything instead of eventually seeing a doctor. It can work at times, but it will only get you so far at the end of the day, and the process will be slower than if you were to go and get help.

I decided to see a professional, got educated on my hair, and then within LESS THAN A YEAR, my hair grew past the length I was stuck at for nearly three years! It only took nine to eleven months after seeing a professional!

If you have read to this point in my post, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!!

Let’s not practice insanity, caught up in cycles because we are either too stubborn or too scared to break through and achieve our goals. What are you waiting for??

Three Reasons Why You Should See A Professional:

1. EDUCATION!

    • You gain a new perspective, new tools, and an understanding of the right and wrong steps to take. Even if the appointment or service does not go the way you envisioned, you will probably still walk away with some new insight.

2. TIME!

    • You achieve your goals faster because you get one plan specifically meant FOR YOU. In other words, you get a direct path to success instead of your continued loop.

3. RESULTS!

    • You get what you came for, which is whatever goal you had to begin with. Whether it is your desired health, hair length, business aspirations, or mental and spiritual state, you can achieve it when you get outside help.

Three Indicators On When To See A Professional:

1. RIGHT AWAY!

    • If the matter in which you need to get better threatens your health, whether it be your mental, spiritual or physical, SEE A PROFESSIONAL. If you have no fear and money to spare, see a professional right away!

2. YOU’RE NOT SEEING THE RESULTS!

    • If you have some worries, then go ahead and do your research. After trial and error, if you find yourself not progressing or your growth becomes stagnant, it is time to see a professional. Do not get trapped in cycles.

3. A COMMON STRUGGLE IN YOUR FAMILY!

    • If your family has struggled with their natural hair, relationships, finances, or even mental health, then see a professional so that you have someone to teach you.

Let’s not waste our precious time praying for the same dreams but not changing our actions or getting the help we need. Let tomorrow be different so that next year around this time, you won’t be wishing for the same thing you are hoping for today.

See a professional!
