Why You Should Get Newborn & Family Photos

You should get newborn and family pictures because when your parents tell you that time flies, they mean it. Your newborn is only a newborn for twenty-eight days. Your toddler’s chubby cheeks will soon disappear, and words will replace their baby babbles. Capturing them in those moments for you to hold onto allows you to appreciate the current moment you are in.

If you don’t get photos to share with family, friends, or others, get them to savor the good times. Get them as a reminder to enjoy every second because your newborn will never be one week again. Your toddler will no longer eat in a high chair or sing Baby Shark, and your little family will no longer be two young people who fell in love.

How to get photos you like:

Use Pinterest and Google to find inspiration for poses. If you book a photographer who does newborn/family photos, they should have a portfolio for you to look at. Try to find at least ten poses you are interested in. Your mind can change, or your baby and toddler might not be interested in sitting still in certain poses. The more options you have, the better.

After you have the poses, you should see what colors you want. You can choose colors based on the season, the mood or even to coordinate with the design of your home. The lighting and editing will affect the photos; you should know what you want them to look like.

You can choose a photographer whose work matches the style and aesthetic you are going for. This way, you know they can and have delivered something you would like. Sometimes, a photographer can stay with you and your family as it grows. My husband and I have had the same photographer for our engagement, wedding, first and second newborn photos, and some family portraits. So when you find a photographer you like, you only need to switch it up if you want to ever so often.

Finally, Have fun! Taking professional photos by itself can be a memory-making moment. Enjoy the cute poses and wraps your baby is in. Lean into your spouse when you do cuddle poses. Breathe and take in the beauty that you get to call family.

Every Precious moment matters, so enjoy it to the fullest.
