DIY Fireplace Wall / BDB (Bald Dad Build) Fireplace wall

This DIY fireplace wall has transformed our house! We aren’t even done with it yet, but I can’t hold my excitement. Whether you are still in your first house or in a place you have been trying to fix up for a while, this is for you. I hope this motivates you to tackle that home project! Stop dreaming about the house of tomorrow and make your home for today! Live in luxury now. You don’t have to live in a mansion to have the aesthetics, walls, floors, lighting, or fixtures of your dreams. Make it happen because tomorrow is not promised.

I have always loved the idea of having a fireplace. I’ve dreamt of the big fireplace made of stone and a burning fire with our stockings hanging on the mantle during Christmas.

Although I have watched multiple videos and read many blogs about how others created their fireplace wall, I was too scared to go for it. Or I made excuses such as this is not our forever home, so why would I update this house just to move.

However, I’ve realized that I don’t want to live in a house that doesn’t feel like home just to live in my Pinterest home in my head. My Dad, husband and I decided to tackle this project.

Here is the before of our DIY Fireplace:

Materials we used:

  • Three pieces of plywood
  • Two cabinets
  • Two pendant lights
  • 20 2x4s
  • Airstone primary wall Spring Creek
  • Airstone corners/end finish Spring Creek
  • 2x6x8 – 4
  • Wall Boxes
  • Outlets
  • Switches
  • Two shelves (came with brackets)

Step by step DIY electric fireplace with tv:

  1. We first started by casting the vision. I showed my dad multiple pictures on Pinterest and then narrowed it down to one shot that I liked, and we used that as the inspiration for our firewall.
  2. Then my dad came over, took measurements, and started visualizing. Of course, I was there to tell him everything I wanted, LOL.
  3. Finally, we ( my dad) started and built the frame with my husband’s help using the 2x4s.
  4. Then, we used the plywood to close it off.
  5. Now part, I don’t know how comfortable people feel with electrical, but my dad and his mentor, Cason, a general contractor, did some electrical work on this project, but it is not needed if you don’t want to add lights.
  6. After they got the outlets where we wanted them, we sketched the wear we wanted the mantle to be. Then, we pushed the cabinets into place.
  7. Put up the shiplap on both sides with a nail gun.
  8. Then, we made custom cuts to a butcher board, stained it, and placed it on the cabinets.
  9. My dad then put the pendant lights up.
  10.  Finally, we added stone. My husband and I did all of the stone. This part made it come to life, and I found it very rewarding. We have never done this before, but for our first time, I feel like we did a great job, and it was super easy using the airstone.
  11. We put the fireplace into place.
  12. After we finished the stone, we stained our shelves (at first, we were going to do floating shelves, but we changed our minds at the last minute.
  13.  Next, we painted the inside area black so everything disappeared around the TV.
  14. During that process, we used poplar to make our mantle and stain it the same color as our shelves.
  15. Finally, we mounted our tv!
