Straight Natural vs. Curly Natural

Straight natural vs. curly natural

I haven’t straightened my hair in five years.

Has not straightening my hair made my hair longer? I honestly don’t know.

I think that saying something so singular like that would discount the fact that I make sure I wash my hair weekly, I get consistent trims every three to four months, I know how to do a wash-n-go, I wear a bonnet at night, I don’t manipulate my hair a lot, even when I wear buns majority of them are loose (on occasion I do have a slick back), and I use products that are good for my hair.

However, I know that I was an unhealthy straightener when I was straightening my hair.

I was straightening my hair daily, using oils, and then frying it with the flat iron. I needed to get consistent trims.

I only got a trim once a year while damaging my hair repeatedly. Rotating moisture was not something I knew when I was only straightening my hair. I was scared of water messing up my hair, so I didn’t know how to have moisturized hair while it was also flat ironed. Again, I was further damaging, already drying and splitting hair while using heavy butter and oils to keep it slick.

Should You Be a curly or straight Natural?

You should do whatever works for you! Whether you are straight or curly, with the correct methods and proper care, you should be able to see growth and retain length.

The bigger question is which way of dealing with your hair are you better at or do you prefer. Whichever one that then does that.

I will always encourage everyone to see a professional and learn as much about their hair as possible. The more you know, the better you can care for your hair.
